Glenn Ronald Schaubel

1972 - 2000

Farewell

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And raced upon the track with laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds- after having done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
With graceful speed in the sunlit silence.  With the love for my sport,
Side by side, we've chased the shooting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through endless turns of track and road
Up, up the long delirious, back-straights of blue sky and wind
I've topped the windswept heights with determination and pride,
Finishing my race among peers and friends
While with silent, peaceful mind I've left
The high untrespassed love of family.
I now reach out with my hand to God with the knowledge that he will
Guide me over the finish line.
